REMINDER: Tuesday, Oct 18th Leland Highschool - an important meeting to solicit community input to SJUSD's new Strategic Plan. Please plan to attend and have your voice heard.
The days are never slow in A-1 and on balance the students are working hard to meet their accomplishments and stretch their brains. It's great to see.
We launched our 5th grade Science-O-Rama today. Students must complete an individual science project that follows the step of the Scientific Method. The fifth grade teachers have two "checkpoints" early on with students: Thursday, October 20 and Monday, October 24th. After that, students must manage their time and work towards the Monday, November 14th deadline. That day all students will bring in the completed journal and a school-provided display board. On Tuesday they will meet individually with an adult judge who will score their project based on a provided rubric. It's a great day for our fifth graders. Please review the packet carefully with your son or daughter.
This week is one of those strange weeks as we prepare for assessments in Science, Math & Language Arts. On Friday the students will have a test on Weather (Ch 6). The students have review reading every evening. Additionally, I will send home sample questions for them to use as a study guide on Tuesday as well as how to access the on-line learning/study resources that come with this textbook series.
Students in Ananmalay, Borges & Soliz/Frankola's classrooms will have a test on algebra on Friday.
I will be conducting assessment on our last two units of language arts as well this week.
We should have lots of data to discuss during parent/teacher interviews in November. Please look for forms coming home on that topic this Thursday. Your prompt reply is appreciated.
