Half-way through November!!

November is such a busy month both on the school and home front.  Thanks to everyone who attended parent-teacher conferences.  Your input and the opportunity to discuss your child's progress is very important to me.

I was so proud of our young scientists as they showed off their hard work at last night's science-o-rama.  Our event is supported by the Synopsys Outreach Foundation and a hard-working crew of volunteers lead by Mary Cannon.  The 23 judges who oversaw the scoring came from our school community and farther to add a sense of excitement and importance to the event.  Their time and expertise was greatly appreciated.

Students are wrapping up a Science Unit (Solar System) this week and will start learning about cellular structures next week.  In Language Arts, we are tackling the meaning of the prefixes "sub" and "sur" and are venturing into adorable, astouding, and accurate adjectives.  {Please forgive the teacher's license on that one.} We've enjoyed our foray into the American Revolution, reading such stories as "And Then What Happened, Paul Revere?", "Katie's Trunk", and "James Forten".  Take a minute to talk to your students about the point of view and bias.

Next week is a short one with 2 full days and then dismissal at 1:40 on Wednesday.  I wish you all a welcome break and an enjoying family holiday.  The coming weeks will be busy ones, so please remember the all-important sleep for those growing fifth graders.

Happy Thanksgiving

Tracey ~ Mrs. A.
