Smelly, happy & home...

Thank you for the warm greeting as our yellow buses rolled into school.  We are very happy to be home.

We finished up our last day with brunch followed by choice activities which included swimming in the new people, archery, arts & crafts, rock climbing, capture the flag, and feed the snakes (not for the faint of heart).

The theme of this week was "step outside your comfort zone", and our students took a huge leap outside of theirs (a few teachers did too).  They all hiked four miles on an ambitious but rewarding day outing.  Students managed their homesickness very well and a few (they know who they are) deserve a medal for coming to grips with strong emotions. The ate new things including redwood sorrel and manzanita berries.  Nervous students handled snakes and even draped them around their shoulders.  Those fearful of the dark learned that a dark forest can be a magnificent place.  They sang, laughed, shed a tear or two, and most of all made an important step towards adolescence: independence.

Thanks to you all for sharing your precious kids with us for the week.  We are grateful for the opportunity to get to know them differently and so well.
