This Week in A-1

Students have two major projects underway:  a poster of the water cycle and a newspaper based around the novel My Side of the Mountain.  Each addresses important 5th grade learning standards. The first is due this Friday; the latter will be due after the break.  Students will be provided ample in-class time for both as long as they use their time wisely.

Cornerstone

Our first Cornerstone lesson was this Monday.  Thank you to Mary Cannon & Tracy Malak for taking on the role as leads for this valuable program. We read Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon and discussed the role of up-standers and the importance of positive self-talk. Check your white envelope for more information and discussion points at home.

Leadership

This past week, students were advised by the lunch yard duties that they had lost the privilege to eat in the quad.  Some students in A-1 have been throwing food, being disrespectful to our lunch supervisors, among other issues.  While not all students are involved, I encourage you to remind your child that we expect positive leadership from 5th graders.  I am hopeful that students can show themselves deserving, as a class, of eating outside when warranted.

Music

Most students have their recorders at school, but if your son or daughter brought theirs home, please make sure they have it with them tomorrow.

Footwear

Unless we get rain, please ensure that your child is wearing shoes that provide sufficient support for exercise and play every day.  Note that Tuesday involved indoor recess and modifications to PE due to smoke from the Loma fire.

Absence

I will be absent on Wednesday for a District Math Meeting.  Bea Macina be our guest teacher.
